Dr. Henrik Nilsson, MD, PhD

Henrik Nilsson, MD, PhD (Med. Dr.) joined Forward Pharma in 2006. Dr. Nilsson previously served as principal at Nordic Biotech, a Danish biotech focused venture capital fund which he joined in 2002. At Nordic Biotech, Dr. Nilsson was part of starting up five biotech companies, two of which are, or have been, listed on major stock exchanges. During his tenure at Nordic Biotech, he has developed a specialty in strategic intellectual property optimization, as well as having worked extensively with clinical and regulatory development planning, financing and strategic positioning of development projects.
Dr. Nilsson has an outstanding clinical and academic background from the USA as well as Scandinavia. He is a fully licensed physician, completing his internship rotations in internal medicine, cardiology, nephrology, general and orthopedic surgery and family medicine with the highest recommendations in 2000. After internship, Dr. Nilsson continued to practice clinical medicine, including training in ophthalmology/ophthalmic surgery and family medicine, and founded a company providing locum physicians to medical offices in Sweden, as well as structuring IT-solutions for the health care sector. In parallel, he pursued an academic research career in biomedical engineering, resulting in a doctoral dissertation from Linköping University, Sweden, in 2002.
Dr. Nilsson has trained at universities in the USA and Sweden, including University of California, Irvine, The Beckman Laser Institute and Medical Clinic, Irvine, California, Lund University, Sweden and Linköping University, Sweden. He was a straight-A student and completed medical school as a top academic student in all clinical rotations, as well as achieving a maximum grade point average in all graduate PhD courses.
Dr. Nilsson has previously been a member of the boards of directors of Osteologix A/S, Forward Pharma A/S and Aditech Pharma AB. Furthermore, he is the inventor of more than 20 patent families. Dr. Nilsson was elected a member of the Institute of Directors in 2006, and was awarded the prestigious Diploma in Company Direction at the Institute of Directors, London, in 2007.
